One key for the Nebulous Crate: open it in game (/mvg crates, or /keys) for one random cosmetic of any kind (MVP Sounds, kill effects, trails, lobby cosmetics...). Odds: Particle 40%, Radiant 30%, Pulsar 20%, Quasar 8%, Event Horizon 2%. One you already own is a duplicate: keep it as a gift for a friend, or take back part of the key's price in Stardust. Rank and event cosmetics never come from a crate.

Nebulous Crate: Any rarity, from Particle to Event Horizon. Every key gives one cosmetic, drawn by the game server with exactly these odds, the same for everyone: no rank or purchase changes them.
